Menopause support

Menopause comes as a shock to many of us women who may have been previously unaware of all of the many symptoms it can bring with it.

Perimenopause can bring symptoms up to ten years before a woman is said to be post menopausal (when she has not had a period for over twelve months) at the average age of 51. Symptoms arise as the female hormones oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone (yes women have testosterone too) decrease. Some women may experience an early menopause, as early as from puberty in rare cases, or experience surgical menopause if she has to have a hysterectomy and ovary removal due to an underlying medical condition or cancer.

Symptoms include:

Hot and cold flushes, night sweats, dizziness, brain fog, anxiety, digestive issues, insomnia/sleep problems, fatigue, increase in allergies, sense of loss of self, mood swings, headaches, poor concentration, loss of confidence, heart palpitations, vaginal atrophy, loss of libido, aching joints, aching muscles, loss of bone density, bleeding gums, thinning hair, weight gain (especially around the waist) ...

Many women are choosing to replace declining hormones around menopause with HRT. There are different forms of HRT including less risky transdermal patches, gels or sprays. This is entirely a personal choice and whether you decide to go natural or use HRT hypnotherapy can support you and your feelings around this change in life. All women are individual and there is no right or wrong when it comes to decisions around coping with menopause.

Some women are advised not to take HRT for medical or health reasons and may need to seek complementary therapies to support them.

Clinical studies have found that five hypnotherapy sessions were successful up to 74% in reducing hot flushes in menopausal women. (article Hypnosis:A Mind –Body Solution for Hot Flushes and Sleep Post-Menopause and in Breast Cancer Survivors, Prof. G. Elkin, Sep 13, 2020 Scientia.global). Hot flushes were reduced by up to 74% after five weekly one to one sessions with a hypnotherapist and a recording was used to reinforce in between sessions.

Hypnotherapy can help to ease hot flushes, anxiety, boost confidence, raise self -esteem, aid with sleep issues and other menopausal symptoms. Hypnosis is a deeply relaxed state where you are awake and fully in control. Menopausal issues is another of Laura’s specialisms, having had additional training in Menopause and as she knows the symptoms of menopause all too well herself.
